Help for Treatment Resistant Depression

Spravato is a nasal spray that can be used with oral antidepressants for Treatment Resistant Depression in adult patients and for adults with acute suicidal ideations or actions. Spravato may only be given in the clinic setting under the supervision of a licensed provider.

Spravato (esketamine) is a not like other antidepressant medications. Standard antidepressants work to increase levels of neurotransmitters: dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin. This requires chemical messengers to talk to the cells. However, in some people theses chemical messengers are weakened or damaged. When this happens moods can be hard to control or regulate.

This is where Spravato can help. It boosts the neurotransmitter glutamate. When glutamate communicates with other cells, it boosts brain functions in memory and learning and helps strengthen and repair connections between other neurotransmitters. In clinical trails, the effects were a reduction in depression and lowering frequency of suicidal thoughts.

Please make an appointment with one of our nurse practitioners to determine if Spravato is a good choice for you. We will discuss the risks, benefits, and process of administering the medication.

When you come for treatments,  plan to be at the clinic for 2-3 hours and make sure you have a friend or family member available to drive you home as the medicine can be sedating.
